We are considering the best method to
develop lacrosse in NSW. In forming the plan suggested here, the
following things have been taken into consideration:
1. Box lacrosse will
remain at the KGV for now. The location is central, cheap and offers
great publicity.
2. A platform must be provided for new players and
juniors to develop.
3. Although 4 or more teams would be desirable, this leads to
goalkeeper issues (ie. Kosh and Chris wouldn't be able to play every
game in a 4-team league, and we have no other dedicated goalies at the
moment). It would be best for new goalies develop away from the big
shooters.
4. We aim to develop a field comp (teams of 13+).
5. With an ever increasing number of players, I would
like to spread the responsibility of selecting teams and encouraging
regular and prompt attendance.
6. We would like to develop links between the men's and
women's teams.
Nothing is definite, but any suggested alternatives
should also cover these requirements.
Suggested solution:
I propose that we split into 3 pools of
players. These will be clubs in name only for now, although they could
offer a basis for separate entities further down the line.
Each pool of players will need
organising. This will require volunteers to manage, select and coach
teams.
Each pool will put forward an A team
and a B team for the box leagues starting September. They will also
form field teams for occasional games. We can expand this to a C or
Junior team when there are enough players.
We have the option of playing a field
comp through the winter of next year.
We can organise this with the women, so
that the pools (or clubs) are mixed groups.
